Pediatric Speech & Language Therapy Services
Coastal Pediatric Therapy Center offers Speech Therapy services. Our highly skilled and experienced speech-language pathologists provide comprehensive evaluations to determine the specific needs of each child and design therapy programs tailored to individual strengths, deficits, interests and personalities. Play-based therapeutic strategies are utilized to improve functional communication skills, and enhance motivation and self-confidence. All speech-language pathologists at Coastal Therapy are licensed by the State of Florida and certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Pediatric Physical Therapy Services
Coastal offers Pediatric Physical Therapy services as well. Pediatric physical therapy is the use of therapeutic play to help children meet developmental milestones, and improve functional gross motor skills, motor planning, strength, endurance, range of motion, gait, balance, coordination, and sensory processing.
Our highly skilled and experienced physical therapists provide comprehensive evaluations to determine the specific needs of each child and design therapy programs tailored to individual strengths, deficits, interests, and personalities. Play-based therapeutic activities and exercises are incorporated into each treatment plan to enhance skill development and build self-confidence.
Our center is fully equipped with sensory integrative and neurodevelopmental equipment to help children learn new skills, achieve greater independence and have fun! All PTs at Coastal Therapy are licensed by the State of Florida and certified by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
Reading Intervention
Our highly skilled and experienced Speech-Language Pathologists can evaluate and treat preschool children with language-based phonological awareness & early literacy deficits through 6 years of age. They provide individualized evaluations to determine each child’s specific profile of strengths and weaknesses. Common areas of assessment include early literacy skills, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, reading rate, reading accuracy, overall reading fluency, spelling skills, and reading comprehension.
Oral and written language skills may also be assessed to rule out the possibility of a language disorder that may be contributing to reading difficulties. These results, along with academic records and any previous assessments such as psycho-educational evaluations, are used to determine an appropriate reading therapy based program to meet the child’s individual needs.
One or more strategies from the following research-based, multi-sensory programs may be utilized to create a program tailored to the child’s strengths and weaknesses.

Sensory Integration Therapy Services
Sensory integration therapy, rendered by an occupational therapist, is the use of therapeutic activities focused on helping children process sensory input such as sounds, smells, tastes, brightness, movement and textures. Children experiencing sensory integration difficulties are not able to process sensory input smoothly and effortlessly, which can cause various problems with daily activities such as mealtime, bathing, playtime, bedtime, transitions, peer interactions, dressing, and learning. Sensory integration occupational therapy can improve the child’s ability to process and respond to sensory input in an appropriate way and improve overall daily function. Pediatric Feeding Therapy Services
The ability to eat, drink, and enjoy the social aspects of mealtime is an important part of the family and social life. Feeding therapy is the use of therapeutic strategies to address various behavioral, physiological, structural and sensory-based issues that impact a child’s ability and/or willingness to eat appropriately. Our highly skilled and experienced therapists provide comprehensive evaluations to determine the specific needs of each child and design feeding programs tailored to individual strengths, deficits, interests and personalities. All feeding therapists at Coastal Therapy are trained in the Sequential Oral Sensory Approach to Feeding (SOS) and the Beckman Oral Motor approach as well as licensed by the State of Florida.

They also strive to collaborate with parents, teachers, and pediatricians to facilitate the most coordinated approach for each child.
*Please note that some feeding issues can be caused by serious structural abnormalities in the swallowing mechanism that may put the child at risk for aspiration (the penetration of food and/or liquid into the lungs). Children presenting issues with swallowing are referred to a pediatric hospital for a thorough swallow study to rule out structural abnormalities and ensure patient safety prior to treatment in our clinic.
